My name is Jacob Ferrill, and I am a University of Alaska Southeast Alumni. During my time at UAS I was able to work in a biochemistry lab researching anti-freeze proteins and later working in an analytical chemistry lab researching PFAS. I now work as an Environmental Scientist at a consulting firm and conduct/report clean-up efforts of regulated anthropogenic contaminants of concern throughout Alaska.
As the AK local section Chair, I plan to improve outreach efforts to people that work and/or study within the chemistry field as well as to everyday Alaskans that should be exposed to how chemistry of all disciplines impacts their everyday life. Specifically, I hope to invite speakers that have been researching topics that have the potential to impact Alaska and to conduct science outreach during citywide events such as “First Fridays” here in Juneau.
